Apparently concerned that the Philadelphia Soul and their steel horse riding owner were stealing the gridiron spotlight in the City Of Brotherly Love, the Eagles unveiled some new jerseys for the upcoming campaign. They are throwbacks to the jerseys worn during the inaugural 1933 season but jettisoned shortly thereafter. Why? Because people preferred begging for apples on the corner during the Great Depression to watching a football team take the field in such a garish outfit. The Eagles will be wearing the duds during the September 23rd game against the Detroit Lions, a special gift from the schedule makers who are trying to answer once and for all the question of which is uglier - these jerseys or a team assembled by Matt Millen. The Eagles are already four point favorites.
Surprisingly blue and yellow are the colors of the city of Philadelphia. Something to do with being founded by Swedes. It's surprising because no teams in Philly wear blue and yellow and because of the involvement with the Constitution and the founding of the country and all you'd think the colors would have some red and white to go with the blue. And Swedes? Who would have thought that a city known for Rocky Balboa, the cheesesteak and soul music would have been found by blue eyed, blond haired herring eaters?
