There's been a lot of talk this season about the lengths the Colorado Rockies travel to prepare baseballs for play at Coors Field. The balls are put in a humidor to dampen them to combat the thin air of the Rocky Mountains. Although this has been done, with Major League Baseball's approval, for some time this season has seen a marked uptick in the Rockies pitching fortunes and multiple 1-0 games, a first in the stadium's history. That ignores the work the Rockies have done in developing pitchers like Jason Johnson and Jeff Francis in favor of seeing a sinister reason behind the offensive slowdown.
The Mets did their best to chalk up a vote for the same old, same old column. Carlos Beltran hit a solo home run in the first, David Wright singled in a run two batters later and the Mets were off and running toward a 10-5 victory. Jose Reyes added a two-run shot in the second inning that both scored and supported Mets starter Steve Trachsel. For Beltran it's a career-best 110 RBI and counting after a sixth inning double gave him two for the night - his 39th home run also set a career high for the MVP candidate.
