Roger Clemens and the Astros are both denying it, but Newsday is reporting that the pitcher has reupped with his hometown team for the remainder of the 2006 season.
Clemens, 43, has agreed to a one-year deal that is believed to be worth about $3.5 million per month, which will probably equate to about $10.5 million for the season, depending on when exactly he returns to action.
Houston's GM Tim Purpura, however, reports that the situation between his team and the Rocket is "status quo." ESPN, which touted the alleged signing as breaking news on PTI and Sportscenter an hour ago, have downgraded it you read into ESPN.com's headline which is focused on the denial. The ESPN report quotes another GM as saying that Clemens will, however, sign with the Astros in the next 48 hours and that the Red Sox are the only other team still alive and bidding because the Yankees won't allow Clemens the flexibility of being with the team only for his starts as is his desire.
