The Indians Can Have 2007 But The Knicks Will Take 1996
58 players were selected in the 1996 NBA Draft. 12 of those 58 never played in the NBA. 12 of the 46 guys who made it into the Association have played for the Knicks. That's about 27% for those of you scoring at home and that's before the inevitable Antoine Walker era at Madison Square Garden. It's a bit of a fudge, actually, because Dontae' Jones, while drafted by the Knicks in the first round never actually played a regular season game for them but we'll count him for these purposes. Those that have worn the orange and blue in games that counted are Marcus Camby, Stephon Marbury, John Wallace, Walter McCarty, Jerome Williams, Travis Knight, Othella Harrington, Moochie Norris, Ben Davis, Malik Rose and Shandon Anderson. To think we'd always remembered it as the draft night that featured Samaki Walker dressed up like a lesbian bride.
Just saw this on True Hoop and thought that it was worthy of a mention. What it says about anything is for you to figure out, sort of like the end of the Sopranos. Tony, Paulie, Walden Belfiore and even A.J. will be more sorely missed than most of the guys on the above list however.
Updated: Detroit Bad Boys reports that the Pistons have had 10 players from the 1995 draft pass through their ranks. Included are the top four picks - Joe Smith, Antonio McDyess, Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace - and Lou Roe. You don't get many names shorter than Lou Roe.
