Not-So-Instant Replay
Most of the eyes in the college football world turned from Piscataway to Columbus this morning after Rutgers beat Louisville by an eyelash. The Michigan-Ohio State tussle on Nov. 18 will have a lot to do with the next National Champion. Some eyes, however, are focused on last year's title game, specifically on problems with the replay system that cropped up on multiple occasions. Yahoo Sports reports,
Yahoo! Sports has learned the wrong television feed had been plugged into one of the monitors of the video replay system. The mistake meant that replay officials did not have the necessary camera angle to properly review Texas' first touchdown. A replay official said the feed mixup might have led to another mistake earlier in the game. On that play, it was ruled that USC's Reggie Bush fumbled.
There have been several other mistakes by review officials this season and many have questioned the point of a system so flawed that the mistakes it's designed to prevent keep happening. I say the NFL has been doing this longer than college - last season's championship game was the first with replay - and there's still an occasional mistake made so keep ironing out the kinks. The Young fumble was as close as could be even on replay and shouldn't be considered as terrible an error as the one that cost Oklahoma during this year's game against Oregon.
